A shell mound from the Jomon period spreading underground in the central part of Osaka City. It is called the 'Exhibition Room of the Morinomiya Piloti Hole Ruins,' where the traces of life of people from about 4000 years ago are conveyed to us today.
This exhibition room, usually covered by buildings on the surface, is open to the public only a few times a year. When you enter, what jumps into view is the countless shell mounds left by the people of that time. In addition to food residues such as magaki and setasijimi, excavated items such as human bones and stone tools are also on display.
It is an intriguing experience to imagine the way of life at that time while looking at the exhibits. This shell mound, which was not only used as a food waste dump but also as a burial place, was not just a pile of waste. While listening to the explanations of experts, let's contemplate the lifestyle of the Jomon people.
This valuable exhibition room has limited opening dates. Please check the next scheduled event on the website of Osaka City, and do not miss this valuable opportunity. Admission is free, so take a break from your daily life and enjoy the special experience of opening the door to the past.
