The view from the top was amazing and the climb was worth it. The walk up to Kamogatake Kuruwa is a walking and training course for locals, so even if it snows, there is no need to worry as you can take the main route directly from the road just behind the temple. From there, there were no footprints in the snow in the direction of Kamagatake, so I turned back from the first Horikiri cliff. There were a lot of steep stairs, so I was sweating a lot while wearing clothes for flat terrain, and I felt cold after getting down.

The mountain trail was well-maintained and easy to walk, but I felt it was inconvenient as there weren't many signboards to give directions or distances! From the entrance of the mountain trail, go to Mt. Shichimen to Mt. Kamogatake. I climbed the stairs up a fairly steep slope, looked at the observatory on the left that I was likely to miss as there was no guidance, then went up the fork in the road to the right, crossed the steep moat up and down, and managed to reach the observatory at the top. It really helped my legs. Worked hard!

Although it is at the top of the mountain, there are mainly temples and doll museums at the base, so I had no idea where to go up, so I finally found out after asking the locals.
There is a door in the fence a little further away, and it takes less than an hour from there.

Kamogatake Castle Ruins
Form: Yamashiro (688m/300m)
Alias: None
Cultural property designation: Prefecturally designated historic site
Remains: earthworks, walls, moats, wells
Castle lord: Mr. Takanashi
History: The year the castle was built is uncertain. It is said that it was expanded to its current size during the era of Masamori Takanashi, who built Nakano Shodate around the Eisho era (1504-1521).
Description: Kamogatake Castle is built on the summit of Mt. Kamogatake, which stands at an altitude of 688.3 meters between Nakano City and Yamanouchi Town, Shimotakai District.
Kamogatake Castle is a continuous mountain castle with a series of curved rings along a ridge extending north and south from the summit of Mt. As soon as you climb up from Higashiyama Park and reach the top of the ridge, you will immediately enter the castle area. First, a series of small steps lead to the Horikiri, and beyond that there is a rather wide curve. Beyond the deeper trench, there are remains of a well in the main enclosure. Further south, there is Horikiri, and there is Kuruwa, the only place where a low earthwork remains. The hole on the south side is a deep double moat. From here, descend south once and climb up a little to reach Kamagatake Castle, which is thought to be a castle attached to Kamogatake Castle.
Information: There seem to be several starting points, but there is a parking lot near the Japanese Doll Museum halfway up the west side, and the trail starts from there.
