Hiunkaku is a building standing in the tranquil garden within Takamatsu Castle. During the Edo period, it was used as the residence of the feudal lord, but it was demolished in the Meiji era due to aging. However, in the Taisho era, it was partially reconstructed by the owner, Count Yoritsugu Matsudaira.
Hiunkaku, with its Western-style architecture that exudes the romantic atmosphere of the Taisho era, has been designated as an important cultural property of the country. The interior of the building is decorated with wood carvings, exuding an elegant atmosphere. On the other hand, the garden, created with dry landscape design, was selected as a national scenic spot in 2013, skillfully incorporating granite, pine trees, and other trees.
Currently, Hiunkaku is owned by Takamatsu City and is used for events such as tea ceremonies, concerts, and photo shoots. It is a good opportunity to stroll through the historic building and garden and experience the culture of Kagawa. There are also some small cafes and souvenir shops, providing a relaxing space.
