A must-go restaurant in Matsue to discover, learn more about vegan food or simply enjoy a meal with your friends after making some manual activities at Kanbe no Sato. The service is really nice and the food delicious. I loved the mix between Japanese traditional visual and typical European food.

Anja prepared a wonderful holiday menu for the time that we visited Wunderbar ("Wonderful") in mid-December 2021. Everything was so good, it's hard to pick a favorite. The family particularly enjoyed the red cabbage soup--a set of perfectly complementary herbs and ingredients. From there, the meatless-meat main, the potato and the sauce were all wonderful. Eyebrows were raised--this couldn't be vegan! But the whole thing was vegan, punctuated by a non-alcoholic...mulled wine? And wonderful cookies. I forgot to ask, I was too busy enjoying everything. In chatting with Anja, she varies the menu as evidenced by Wunderbar's Instagram feed. We regrettably were only in Shimane for a short time. Anyone visiting Izumo area should take the effort to visit Wunderbar. We rented a car and enjoyed some other local temples, and would recommend the same. A wonderful experience!

It uses Kanbe Chaya and is open during lunch time on Mizuki. I visited without knowing that, and it was my first vegan meal. The dishes served seem to be a set menu that changes weekly. What I thought I didn't learn enough about is that vegans don't just eat meat, they also don't eat animal-derived foods such as milk, butter, and honey. It's completely vegetarian. The most surprising thing on the menu was the cake. I'm curious as to whether or not you can make a cake like this without using dairy products such as butter or milk. It was a carefully made cake that was different from commercially available products. It's not light, but has a strong flavor. At the time of my visit, the male to female ratio was almost entirely female. They also have a drink menu, so I think it's a good place to have a leisurely conversation.
