The "Plum Trees Planted by Prince Takamatsu" located in the center of Aizuwakamatsu City is a precious garden with remnants of a daimyo garden built in the late Edo period. The beautiful construction from that time continues to be handed down, and in spring, the plum blossoms bloom in full glory.
This garden was used as the residence of the Aizu Matsudaira family in the Meiji era. It later became a villa of the Takamatsu Imperial Family, and the name remains because Emperor Showa himself planted the plum trees during the time of the Takamatsu Imperial Family.
In the garden, approximately 120 plum trees are planted, and from late February to early March, plum blossoms of various shades bloom one after another. In addition to enjoying the fragrant flowers up close, you can also feel the history while strolling through the garden.
From the plum garden, you can enjoy the unique scenery of Aizu surrounded by mountains. There are also traditional craft sales outlets in the surrounding area, making it an ideal place to enjoy the local culture. You can fully appreciate the charm of Aizu, where history and nature blend together.
