Place of worship • 1912 Shizuki, Awaji, Hyogo 656-2131, Japan
Shitsuki Hachimangu Shrine is a historic shrine located in the western part of Awaji Island. It collapsed in the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake of 1995, except for part of the main hall, but was rebuilt in February 2009 by the shrine's parishioners and devotees. The shrine has a long history, and traditional events rooted in the local community are also preserved.
When visiting the shrine, first cleanse your hands at the chozuya, then ring the bell to offer greetings. While walking along the approach to the shrine, prepare your heart and follow the worship rituals. Inside the shrine's precincts, there are guide boards that show the proper way to perform the rituals, so even first-time visitors can worship with peace of mind.
Every April, the spring festival is held. Local danjiri gather at the shrine, creating a festival atmosphere. Through traditional festivals, the bonds of the community deepen, and the shrine adds color to people's lives.
Shitsuki Hachimangu Shrine is also known as a famous place in the region. In addition to the joy of visiting famous places, the quiet precincts cleanse the mind and bring peace to the soul. It's a great opportunity to get away from everyday life, touch history, and find liberation.
