In the remote region of the Shimanto River basin in Shikoku, untouched primeval forests are still preserved. By walking through this untouched space, you can feel the breath of nature transcending time. In this luxurious space, the large Hiba tree, with an age of about 800 years, stands tall.
This large Hiba tree has a huge trunk and some of its branches are broken, but its robust figure is overwhelming. It has roots deeply planted in the earth, and its branches reaching towards the sky seem as if a giant is dancing. It is evidence that has continued to root in this place since ancient times.
This large Hiba tree, along with the primeval forest of Shimanto, has been designated as a prefectural natural monument. In order to pass on the precious natural resources to the future, when visiting, please cherish nature. Just as the nature of Shimanto has done, we should also protect and pass on this treasure to future generations.
