A Hidden Gem in Karuizawa, Pension Igue

A Quiet Moment Surrounded by Trees

Located in the greenery of Karuizawa, there is a small pension surrounded by trees. This hidden gem stands in front of the French restaurant "Primavera" and is charming for its quiet atmosphere surrounded by trees. After the historical villa was renovated, it has a charming structure and harmony with the surrounding greenery, allowing you to immerse yourself in an extraordinary atmosphere as if time had stopped.

A Luxurious Location at the Gateway to Karuizawa

Pension Igue is a 10-minute walk from JR Karuizawa Station and is also close to the old Karuizawa Ginza. It is located in the heart of Karuizawa, making it extremely convenient as a base for sightseeing and shopping. However, it is hard to imagine from its appearance surrounded by trees, a surprisingly quiet space extends. It is a hidden gem where you can leave the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a leisurely time.

Accommodation where Nostalgia and Newness Coexist

The inside of the facility has some old-fashioned elements, but modern arrangements are added, creating a retro-modern atmosphere. The lounge offers free coffee and tea, and there are also comic books, making it a perfect space for a break.

Enjoying Local Popular Tastes

There are many specialty gourmet dishes in Karuizawa, which are essential for guests. The hotel's breakfast includes Karuizawa's specialty "oshiruko bread," allowing you to enjoy local flavors. Enjoying French and Western cuisine at nearby restaurants such as "Primavera" is also a luxurious experience.

Recommended Customers

Pension Igue is perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a quiet time, those who want to enjoy their vacation in a natural environment, and those who want to enjoy a Karuizawa stay at a reasonable price. The stylish combination of the old-fashioned atmosphere and modernity is also popular with those with modern sensibilities.

However, please be aware of some inconvenience due to the age of the facilities and the issues with the staff's response, as mentioned in the reviews. Overall, this is an accommodation where tranquil time and the charm of both the old and the new coexist, providing an extraordinary experience.

We had booked it for one night stay and liked the fact that it was so close to station as well as nearby attractions. Very convenient to walk around, it's surrounded by a lot of nature and morning walk was our favourite!

Stayed in August 2023 [What I thought was good] ・Good access to Karuizawa Station and Old Karuizawa Ginza ・Amenities such as tea and coffee are available for free in the common room. ・There are many comics in the common room. [Where I thought it wasn't good] ・Mold is noticeable around the door edges and in the bathroom. ・The towel smells like a dry odor. ・There was a hole in the pillow cover. I couldn't stop sneezing because of the mold, so it might be a little difficult if you have allergies.

The location is very good. The room was bigger than I expected, and there were warmer pads for each person that didn't need to be glued on, and toilet seat sheets that you could stick on (I wonder if they were supposed to keep you from getting cold?), so I could feel that they were taken care of. There aren't many electrical outlets, so I guess I have to rely on extension cords. For example, there is no light in front of the mirror, making it difficult to apply makeup. Well, the equipment is old so it can't be helped. What I would like to see improved is the mold in the bathroom. The dirt on the ceiling ventilation fan appears to have not been cleaned for over a year. There are a lot of insects inside the light cover in the bathroom💦 Also, do they wash the bath towels themselves instead of sending them to the cleaners? It smelled dry and I hesitated to use it. I didn't have it with me so I used it, but I felt bad. One light bulb in the room was also burnt out. And I understand from the reviews that everyone wants to say something about the male staff. He had an arrogant attitude, and when I took a photo with my smartphone at breakfast, he told me in a strong tone, ``Please put your cell phone away until you finish eating!'' In the hospitality industry, that doesn't happen. It was close to the Tame entrance when I checked in, so I was welcomed! I can't feel that feeling at all. That person should go behind the scenes. This is a person who should not interact with customers. The female staff are generally nice and kind when serving customers. I think I would have felt worse if she wasn't there. So I feel like I should have given it a 1 star rating, but I gave it a 2 star rating.

It felt like I was in an old villa! The location is great, right in front of French Primavera 😍 It's small and old, but the price is very low ❗ It's very quiet in the woods. I was able to fully enjoy the green trees with only the sounds of the wind and cicadas! This is a pension that will satisfy those who love nature. Kuroshiba is the signboard dog! It was a dog-friendly hotel. Please bring your own pee sheet 💚

The female staff responded normally, but the male staff's attitude was the worst. No greetings even at breakfast, just sit there! in a commanding tone. While I was eating, I was answering work emails and my phone was put away! Another command. It's my fault because I was playing with my phone, but this male staff member's words really put me off this morning. I had a good trip, but it was ruined. I'll never go again. I feel sick.
