A Stroll Through Hakone's Little Gem, the Healing Aquarium

Hakone is known for being a tourist destination surrounded by the blessings of nature, but did you know that there is a small healing space within it? I am talking about the Hakone-en Aquarium. From a small building, you can experience a space filled with unimaginable charm.

The Lively Stage of the Fish

As soon as you enter, a huge tank in the center catches your eye. There, various marine creatures, from the leisurely large tropical fish to the small yet colorful fish, swim around. You will forget the passage of time and be healed just by watching the elegant swimming of the fish.

Enchanted by the Charm of the Shows

There are many attractions at the aquarium, but the showtime is definitely a must-see. The adorable walks of the penguins and the performances of the seals capture the hearts of everyone, from children to adults.

Unexpected Encounters Are Also a Pleasure

There is an outdoor pond where you can feed ducks and swans. And believe it or not, there are even huge salamanders! You will be excited by the unexpected encounters.

The admission fee is reasonable, and although it is not large in scale, you can experience a warm atmosphere. This is a hidden Hakone aquarium recommended for families. Why not spend a leisurely and healing time in the nature-rich Hakone?

It’s a very small aquarium and you can see it all in about 30 mins. But it does have a good range of fish and some seals. Warning: if you are using the Hakone Free Pass. There’s only one bus every hour and we got stranded as the bus was full and wouldn’t let anyone one. There’s response to well how do we get back was: get a taxi.

I got to feed an otter and honestly it is one of my favorite things from my trip to Japan so far! the aquarium is small, but was a great way to kill some time before our boat cruise. It was very affordable and getting to feed an otter was so much fun!

It's a decent small aquarium, however you can feel it's age as the aquarium definitely needs some renovation to look more modern. Price is ok, it's about 1000yen for entry so there is nothing much to complain about it. If you have gone to other Japanese aquarium this will feel small. Overall still worth seeing their seals and baby otters which are newborns and worth coming down to see them.

Our kids had great time there. But the parking fee was too expensive! When we went here last year, the parking fee was free... Anyway, the aquarium has two buildings. And the new animals "otters" were so cute. I felt their space was too small for them. But my kids were so happy to see them. They have a few show events everyday and you can enjoy. Please check their show schedules before you go!

Small aquarium at the base of ropeway. Hundreds of types of fishes, Tiger fish, clown fish, crabs, salamander, jelly fish, turtle, and may sea creatures. There is a seal show around 15 mins. Beautiful scenery all around. There is a small shopping store with hundreds of souvenirs to take back including wooden carved paintings and special lock puzzle and candies. Small Due to high winds, ropeway may be closed and you may get a chance to view the aquarium.
