This is a must visit place in Kyoto. The temple is enormous. The place was built in 1800s and got burnt down 4 times. Lots of history here. As an architectural nerd, this place is amazing. We came during a ceremony. It’s free to come in. And they also have stamp in each building , just in case you might be a collector. Expect to spend a good hour or two here.

This beautiful temple is about 10 min walk from Kyoto station. The temple was initially built in the 12th century. It was destroyed by fire and rebuilt several times, ultimately in 1911 the 28 meter hall gate was built. The massive wooden pillars of the temple is something unique, not seen in other places. The temple closes by 5 PM. Must visit place in Kyoto

Beautiful temple few steps away from the busy Kyoto station. Visitors could feel the tranquility of its presence in contrast to non-stopping activities of surrounding areas.

Very impressive temple located just a few blocks from Kyoto Station. One of the larger temples in the Kyoto area. You're able to walk the grounds during the day, but also looks nice when lit up at night. It's also impressive how Kyoto Tower overlooks it when heading back to the train station.

Beautiful temple. Great spot to take a break to meditate. Tranquil, large space. Smells wonderful inside of old wood and incense. The dragon fountain in front is beautiful. Definitely worth a 20-30 minute visit.
