Train station • 2 Chome-7 Inari, Hokuto, Hokkaido 049-0161, Japan
Kamoi Station is a small station on the Dounan Isaribi Railway in Hokuto, Hokkaido. From the station building, you can overlook the Pacific Ocean, and in the distance, you can see Mount Hakodate. When you get off the train, you will encounter the sight of a conveyor belt from a cement factory extending towards the sea.
This station bears traces of the former JR Esashi Line. The stairs still retain the traces of the "JR" logo, giving a nostalgic atmosphere. Although it has been unmanned since the days of manned stations, it exudes a somewhat lonely atmosphere.
However, the waiting room features a newspaper created by students from the local Kamoi Junior High School, showing that it is a station beloved by the local community. It is a gentle and deeply flavorful station, condensed with the charm of a small town by the sea.
Beyond Kamoi Station, you can enjoy the beautiful coastline from the train window. At night, you can enjoy the nostalgic sight of squid fishing fires floating on the water. During the day, the seaside road looks like it came straight out of a landscape in a video game.
For the local people, this area marks the boundary of the "Hakodate area." Chain stores unique to Hakodate, such as Hasegawa Store and Lucky Pierrot, are scattered as far as Kamoi. Beyond this point, the true natural scenery of Hokkaido unfolds.
Kamoi Station is equipped with automatic ticket machines and vending machines. You can also keep warm in the waiting room while waiting for the next train.
However, the number of trains to and from Kikonai is limited, so you need to check the timetable carefully. If you miss the train, you may have to wait for quite a long time. Why not create some unforgettable memories of a Hokkaido trip at this station, where you can immerse yourself in the charm of Kamoi while spending some leisurely time?
