Sanzen-in stands quietly in the mountains of Ohara, northeast of Kyoto. This temple, boasting a history of 1200 years, is said to have been founded by Saicho, the founder of the Tendai sect. As a monzeki temple where members of the Imperial family serve as head priests, it combines noble status with breathtakingly beautiful gardens, making it a representative tourist spot of Kyoto.
Sanzen-in's greatest attraction is undoubtedly its garden beauty.
