On a small island floating in the Seto Inland Sea, the work of the Korean artist, Mr. Cai Zaiyin, gives birth to the 'Inujima Art House Project: In Between the Sea and the Shore'. This island itself has become a gigantic art piece, offering a non-daily experience of admiring the work while shuttling between the land and the underwater space.
Taking a boat from the harbor, the first thing that catches the eye is a huge circular embankment floating on the sea with a diameter of about 60 meters. This embankment, floating on the sea surface, changes in height with the ebb and flow of the tide. Its central part is submerged in the sea, and works are installed in that space.
In the central part of the embankment, there are stairs leading to the underground art space when the tide recedes. In this underground space, there are many luminous spherical works imitating the moon and stars, creating a fantastical and mysterious world.
It is located about a 20-minute drive from Onomichi City at 'Inujima Kunibe no Port', where a free shuttle boat is available for a 10-minute ride. The museum is open from 10 am to 5 pm, and the admission fee is 600 yen for adults.
This museum is a place where you can enjoy encountering art integrated with nature. In a non-daily space different from everyday life, why not be immersed in the charm of art and have a fresh experience?
