Kengo Kuma-designed hot spring resort

Nestled in the grand nature of Higashikawa-cho, the "Kitoishi no Mori" is a hot spring facility designed by the architect Kengo Kuma. The wooden building, simple yet elegant, harmonizes with the magnificent surrounding scenery. Inside the facility, one can enjoy a leisurely bath while gazing at the spectacular view from the sauna and open-air bath.

At Kitoishi no Mori, you can savor not only the hot springs but also healthy cuisine made with seasonal ingredients. From the large bath, you can overlook the seasonal landscapes of Higashikawa-cho and experience nature with all five senses in a tranquil time. The facility's attention to detail is evident, and payments with the IC band worn on the wrist are also smooth.

Cost 300¥\person, amazing place. Very peaceful and fun to watch the birds in the morning. Might be a bit noisy early in the day, but not too bad. Overall we had fun.

It's a great place to enjoy the natural scenery and family camping or just relax in one of the well equipped cabins. The cabins are spacious and well maintained, although it can be quite hot in the summer since there is no air conditioning. The staff was very friendly and helpful, even though we caused them some trouble by checking in very late. The Go-carts were a blast. Highly recommend for any nature or camping lovers.

Visited during summer, kids had a fun time in the water playground. There's also other places within the area such as observation decks giving a good view of the surrounds. We also rode on the go karts. There were also camping grounds for tents and some lodges. Next time we might take advantage of these spots as the area was quite nice.

Easy and inexpensive snowshoe rental, and interesting trails crisscrossing the southern slope of the Canmore ski area. Some cross country ski trials and such as well. Snowfall has been light this year, and the trails are easy to navigate (1/2020).
