Bunusu Shrine, located in Chikuma City, Nagano Prefecture, has a history that dates back to before the Common Era. According to shrine tradition, this historical shrine has been revered as a land deity since the era of Emperor Kōgen, the eighth emperor of Japan, and has garnered the faith of local people for many years.
Upon stepping into the shrine grounds, you are enveloped in a majestic atmosphere surrounded by abundant trees. Passing through the grand torii gate, crossing the Taiko Bridge, and proceeding along the path, the solemn main shrine reveals itself. Bunusu Shrine is particularly famous for its blessings of traffic safety. Many worshippers from inside and outside the prefecture come to receive blessings for safe driving. The parking lot is filled with cars bearing various regional license plates, indicating its popularity.
This shrine offers not only regular goshuin but also a unique one called "Gokokuin." Additionally, there are various shapes of omikuji, including ones shaped like tai (sea bream) and doves, allowing worshippers to choose according to their preferences.
Within the shrine grounds, there is a shop selling uzura-mochi (quail rice cakes), where you can take a break and enjoy local flavors after worshipping. This is an appealing spot where you can enjoy both the shrine visit and the local food culture experience.
The road in front of the shrine tends to have heavy traffic, so care is needed if you are driving. There are parking lots both inside and outside the grounds, but during crowded times, please be considerate not to obstruct other worshippers.
