The cherry blossom trees of Uchiko Izusaki, spread across the town of Uchiko in Ehime Prefecture, present a colorful cherry blossom tunnel in spring, truly a natural artwork. There are approximately 630 Somei Yoshino cherry trees planted over a 1km stretch, and the sight of the flowers in full bloom is an indescribable beauty. The contrast with the nearby stream also creates a wonderful spectacle.
A walking path is maintained along the cherry blossom trees, allowing a leisurely stroll beneath the cherry blossoms. During full bloom, the locals gather here, and many tourists also come to visit. Not just as a cherry blossom spot, this place surrounded by nature is also perfect for stress relief. Handmade cherry blossom rice cakes and souvenir shops are also set up, so you can enjoy the spring flavors while leisurely strolling.
The cherry blossom trees of Uchiko Izusaki change their expressions daily from blooming to full bloom, and then to the falling of the cherry blossoms. The early-blooming cherry blossoms start blooming first, gradually changing color, giving a sense of the arrival of spring. The best time to see them is at full bloom, but as the season comes to an end, a carpet of fallen cherry blossoms spreads across the ground, creating another elegant landscape. By visiting at different times, you can enjoy different views.
After admiring the cherry blossoms, it's recommended to savor the local specialty dishes of Uchiko. The 'Uchiko Fresh Burger' is an exquisite burger with fluffy freshly baked buns and a juicy beef patty. It uses local wheat and vegetables. Also, the 'Slanted Udon' is a deep and flavorful dish influenced by the udon culture of the nearby hot spring town of Dogo. Exploring the popular local eateries is also one of the pleasures.
Uchiko town still retains its traditional streets and a warm, friendly atmosphere. If you strike up a conversation with someone passing by, you may hear heartwarming stories unique to this small town. It's also recommended to participate in festivals and events if there are any, as the locals are very friendly. Passing through the cherry blossom trees, you will find a warm local daily life beyond just sightseeing.
