Kososaki Station is a small unmanned station located in Oita City, Oita Prefecture. This station's name is derived from the place name "Kanzaki", but it was named "Kososaki" to distinguish it from Kanzaki Station in Saga Prefecture. It is a slightly unusual name for a station, with the historic town name still remaining.
Kososaki Station is the only station that leads to Saga-Kan Port. Saga-Kan Port is an important port connecting Kyushu mainland and Shikoku, and you can cross to Shikoku by ferry. It takes a 2 and a half hour walk from the station, but you can enjoy the magnificent scenery along the seaside.
Although Kososaki Station is now an unmanned station, there are still remnants of its bustling past. Surprisingly, there are three platforms still remaining. In the past, it must have been bustling with many people coming and going. It's a station with a quaint charm that makes you feel the history.
Within walking distance from Kososaki Station, there are dining places where you can enjoy fresh seafood such as saury and mackerel. You can enjoy exploring around the station while savoring the blessings of the sea.
It takes about 1 hour from Oita Station to Kososaki Station on the JR Nippo Main Line. Please note that the Suica card is only valid up to Kososaki Station. There are no accommodation facilities around the station, but you can visit for a day trip from Oita City or Beppu City.
