Tokyo's Little Healing Island, Toyokawa Inari Tokyo Betsuin

Just a step away from the hustle and bustle of the city, there is a temple surrounded by tranquility and charm. That is Toyokawa Inari Tokyo Betsuin. In this article, we will introduce in detail the charm of this small hidden temple.

Healing Stroll through the Grounds

Walking through the streets of Akasaka, you'll find a quiet temple. As you proceed along the approach, the majestic main hall comes into view. The vibrant vermilion building is like a refuge from the city. The grounds are home to various gods and buddhas, including the Seven Lucky Gods, and it's a good idea to take a leisurely stroll while paying your respects.

Can 'Yuzuri Kin' Open the Door to Wealth?

The highlight of this temple is undoubtedly the 'Yuzuri Inari'. Free yellow pouches known as Yuzuri Kin are distributed, and it is believed that placing them in your wallet will bring good luck with money. As it attracts many celebrities, its power may be genuine.

Convenient Access to an Urban Oasis

The nearest station is Akasaka-Mitsuke Station, just a 5-minute walk away, making it easily accessible. Being in the heart of the city, it's also suitable for a short break and change of mood. It's also nice to take a rest in the temple grounds in between prayers.

Toyokawa Inari Tokyo Betsuin is not only recommended for those who wish to improve their luck, but also for those who want to escape the daily hustle and bustle and refresh themselves.

This was my favorite shrine I visited on my most recent trip to Japan. Not only is it a beautiful gem tucked into a neighborhood, but it’s very foreigner friendly too. Some signs are in both Japanese and English, helping visitors know what’s going on and what each part of the shrine means. There is also a great digital interactive sign that you can use, and it translates for you, so I was able to understand the different amulets the stand was selling, so I could finally buy something in confidence. Everyone here is so welcoming and kind. One woman even stopped us and showed us how to do some of the cleansing motions and encouraged us to go inside the actual shrine building. A must visit if you’re wanting to experience the culture.

Very cool little temple. It's quite small, but it's chock full of all kinds of fox statues big and small. It's not a traditional sightseeing spot and you'll find a lot of people going there to actually pray (at least that was the case when I went). Taking photos is allowed, or rather there was no sign prohibiting photos. Just be mindful of the people going there for religious reasons.

A really cute and kind of unique temple. Not that special that you extra for this temple have to come to Akasaka but if you are nearby, step by and enjoy it the calmness and uniqueness of the place.
