The great nature holds hidden surprises that go beyond human comprehension, and Funa-ta Intra-tree Mold located at the foot of Mt. Fuji is surely one of its masterpieces. Approximately 1,000 years ago, a lava flow covered giant trees, and although the trees themselves disappeared, their shapes have been clearly preserved. Resembling a birth canal, it has been revered as a place to pray for safe childbirth and new life.
Passing through the precincts of the Intra-tree Shinto shrine, you will find a deep path. Once you step in, it feels like entering a gateway to another world. As you slowly advance, you will see a circular hole in the ground, which is the entrance to the lava tree mold.
Entry requires advance registration at the field center. Here, be sure to listen carefully to the instructions and wear the helmet provided free of charge. Then, you can enter the intra-tree mold. With your body bent and squatting, you will slowly proceed. Along the way, you will be mesmerized by the surprising artistic beauty.
The path is narrow, and tall people must walk bent over. However, you will be captivated by the beautiful curves and organic shapes created by the lava. This artwork created by nature is sure to be deeply engraved in your heart.
Deep in the main route known as the mother's womb, after passing through a momentary darkness, the light shines through. After passing through this narrow birth canal, you may feel as if welcoming a completely new life. This place is truly worthy of being called a sanctuary, where you can encounter the sacred power of Mt. Fuji and the natural beauty of its creation.
