I went there 6 years ago...
I found this while organizing my photo album.
Although there are only a few people using it, the restrooms, showers, and nearby facilities are all well maintained. It has a neat, Japanese-style atmosphere.
There are many campsites with few people that are poorly maintained, but I was pleasantly surprised by how clean they were!
Looking at the reviews, it seems like there is an admission fee these days. When I went, I was rather sorry because it was free, but it seems like it would be better managed if you pay an admission fee.
There are no cars. It's not easy to get around and the supermarket is too far to walk.
Anyway, looking at the picture, I miss it...
草枕
Used in early January 2023.
The usage fee is 500 yen per night. Procedures at the office.
It's actually my first time visiting again in over 10 years.
The situation is not good after being damaged by the typhoon.
I've heard that things have changed, but
It has certainly changed from the calm atmosphere before,
It's more like an abandoned park than a campsite...
There is a storm forest from the site, so you can't see the sea at all, but the wind from the sea is blocked, so it's relatively quiet even on windy days. Concrete chairs and tables are scattered throughout the site. There is one small kitchen with a roof. The electricity in the toilet seems to be a motion sensor, but when you enter there is only one faint firefly-like light on the ceiling, and at night it's almost pitch black unless you bring a light. There seems to be a shower facility, but it seems to be in a separate cottage, so I couldn't check it when I was using it. Garbage can be separated and disposed of in designated areas.
Right next to the entrance of Yurigahama
It seems that a facility called "Yoroninagisa Police Box" is scheduled to be built in 2023, but at present there is only a sand mountain. This may have something to do with the fact that it feels desolate, with only the minimum necessary equipment and management for a campsite. So I feel like once it's completed, the atmosphere of the surrounding area, including here, will change again. According to the Yoron Island tourism website, there will be some restrictions on access due to construction until the end of March 2023.
However, the charm of this campsite is
You can walk right to Yurigahama.
The moment you emerge from the dimly lit road and see the Yoron Blue Sea, it has such an impact that all your worries in the world disappear. This time it was too windy to relax on the beach, but depending on the season and time of day, you can spend forever gazing at the sea and sky. Also, like the surrounding remote islands, the starry sky at night was spectacular.

There were some chairs and tables, which was helpful.
There are no lights.
The water supply is a little dirty, but it's tolerable.
The scenery is not good.
I can't see the sea.
At night, the chirping of birds was long and loud.
The cat was wandering around and I felt at ease.
I haven't cleaned up the charcoal.
The toilet lights up when someone is there, but the light is too weak.
The view is bad, probably because it's under construction.
There's a pile of sand next to it.
The feeling of construction work is undeniable.
Now I don't have ¥500...

A few years ago, a super typhoon wiped out the sand and windbreak forests that had been lush with greenery.
Almost all of the trees over 100 years old have died and have all been cut down because they are dangerous. As a result, there was almost no shade at this campsite. Yoron Island is extremely hot and humid in the summer, making it impossible to sleep in a tent. Camping is good from fall to spring. The minimum facilities such as a kitchen and toilet are provided. If you bring your own tent (no rentals), it costs 500 yen per night. However, the accommodation procedures are at the tourist office located on the other side of the island, near the old town hall of Chahana (approximately 6 km away), so it is better to complete the procedures after arriving by boat or plane.
Please note that there are no shops or restaurants nearby, so you will need to bring your own food, and the nearest shop is approximately 1.2km away. All the guesthouses that used to be around this area have gone out of business, so it's very quiet at night, and there are few street lights, making it eerily quiet and pitch black. The stars at night are so beautiful, and you can enjoy the silence in the midst of nature.
