Train station • Nakamuracho, Yokkaichi, Mie 512-8044, Japan
This small station in the corner of Yokkaichi is filled with vitality in the morning and evening, which is unimaginable from its appearance. The pillars supporting the station building are already old, but the nostalgic atmosphere emanating from it has become one of the charms of this station.
Akisho Gakuenmae Station, as the name suggests, is the nearest station to Akisho Gakuen. However, it is also heavily used by students from Kunishi Nishi High School, so it is bustling with students during commuting hours. The sight of students pouring out of the school gate and filling the platform with lively scenes has become the face of this local private railway.
Surrounding the station are a post office, a dagashiya (snack shop), and a beauty salon, indicating that the station has become a small hub for the community. Vending machines are lined with snacks, satisfying the hungry stomachs of students on their way home. The small commercial building harmonized with the retro station building has become a beloved presence for its customers.
However, despite the large number of passengers, the station is unmanned at night, and there are still issues to be addressed. There used to be a restaurant on the second floor, but it is not in use now. Looking at the historical and fluctuating appearance of this station, it feels like it holds even more potential for use. Although there are unique limitations of local private railways, we still look forward to further progress.
