神倉神社

Kumano Hayatama Taisha is referred to as "Shingu Shrine" because it was the first to build a new shrine at the foot of Mount Kamikura, which has its roots in primitive and natural faith before any shrine structures existed. On February 6th, a peculiar festival known as the "Oto Matsuri" takes place.

Kamikura Shrine is the sacred place where the Kumano Deity first descended, even before being enshrined as one of the Kumano Three Mountains. It is located atop a steep cliff known as Amano Iwatake, and after ascending the several hundreds of natural stone steps—revered as the ancient path within the Kumano ancient roads—you will reach the sacred rock known as Gotobiki Iwa.

At the halfway point of Gongen Mountain sits an ancient shrine that possesses a legend about the Kumano Gongen, which is worshipped at the Kumano Three Mountains, descending to Earth for the first time. Perched atop the steep cliff known as Amanoiwatate, the shrine can be reached by climbing over five hundred steep stone steps that are part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail, where you will find the sacred Goto-biki Rock.
