Traditional Flavors of Nara: Frequently Asked Questions

The charm of Nara lies not only in its historical value, but also in the local food culture that has been preserved by the people. While Nara is famous for Todai-ji Temple and the deer, don't miss out on the local flavors deeply rooted in the land when you visit. Here, we will answer frequently asked questions about the long-established sushi restaurant 'Yokuyo Honten' in Nara.

Sushi Restaurant Filled with the Skill and Passion of Artisans

Yokuyo Honten is a renowned restaurant with a history of over 300 years since its foundation. The secret to its reputation lies in the reliable skills passed down through generations and the commitment to quality ingredients. When you step into the charming interior, you can witness the dedicated attitude of the artisan sushi chefs.

Locking in the Flavors with Traditional Methods

The signature menu item at Yokuyo Honten is none other than 'Anago Hako Sushi.' This anago (conger eel) is carefully dried using traditional methods, then packed in wooden boxes for fermentation and maturation. This process maximally preserves the flavors, resulting in a deep, rich taste.

Savoring the Flavors of the Season

The sushi toppings reflect the abundant nature of Nara – the blessings of the mountains, rivers, and the local Yamato vegetables. The artisan skill that enhances the natural flavors of the seasonal ingredients shines through, allowing you to feel the season with every visit.

Worth a Visit in Between Sightseeing

Yokuyo Honten, which stands in front of Todai-ji Temple, boasts a convenient location as a dining spot amidst sightseeing. After interacting with the deer or enjoying the ancient temples, be sure to stop by. In addition to the traditional flavors, you can also experience the unique atmosphere of Nara.

There is a restaurant right in front of Todaiji Temple. It has a comfortable environment and is right next to Kanrozo. There are many businesses nearby. The price of this restaurant is average, but it can be a relaxing place to eat in the hot summer!
